To transport the recycled water from the Hyperion plant to the Pacific Palisades, the proposed system utilizes a dedicated underground tunnel in conjunction with surface or shallow-buried pipelines.
Strategically located ATAC LH (Large Hydrants) throughout terrain, infrastructure and topography. In high value density areas will provide a protective shield against wildfires.
While significantly more expensive than, a tunnel offers crucial advantages:
- Security: An underground tunnel is highly secure from vandalism, sabotage, and, most importantly, damage from wildfires themselves. This ensures the uninterrupted operation of the ATAC system during critical events.
- Minimal Surface Disruption (Post-Construction): Once completed, the tunnel will have minimal impact on surface activities, preserving the aesthetics and functionality of the Pacific Palisades community. This is in stark contrast to the disruption caused by laying large-diameter pipelines at the surface.
- Protection from Natural Disasters: The tunnel will be designed to withstand seismic activity, protecting the water supply from earthquakes, a significant concern in Los Angeles.
